New Adventures: Bishop Peak Trail

Bishop Peak Trail

Bishop Peak Trail in San Luis Obispo is such a beautiful hiking trail with amazing views all around. If you are ever in the area and want to explore, consider this hiking trail. One of my New Year resolutions was to be more adventurous and be out doors more.

Bishop Peak is the tallest of the nine sisters of the Volcanic Morros that stretch across San Luis Obispo. Going up to the summit you will have a panoramic view of the city below. Views of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and more make for amazing pictures.
The trail itself is beautiful and exhausting because of the steepness at some points throughout the trail. If you start out from Highland Drive it will be around 3.5 miles or so. If you start at Patricia Drive it will be around 4.2 miles round trip but I think the numbers are wrong because my phone tracked the miles differently. Overall, it took me around 3 - 3.5 hours round trip, which included the time we spent at the summit taking pictures.

Things you might consider taking on this trail would be plenty of water and snacks. Bring a hat and sunscreen depending on the weather for that specific day. Oh, and proper shoes and gear for the hike because climbing up the rocks can be slippery and the trail itself is challenging. It is important that if you are going to climb the rocks that you are careful, so you don’t fall and hurt yourself.  Go up on your own pace so you don’t get too tired and can enjoy the views.
During you might get to see rock climber in action and watch them go down. That was super cool to see when I was hiking.
Some things to keep an eye out for: poison oak, foxes, coyotes, bobcats and mountain lions. There are signs at the beginning of the trail and throughout that warn you about these things.  Also, night hikes aren’t allowed.
Getting some of the pictures at the peak was tricky and scary because for one I was scared that I would fall.
The hike is rated as a moderate hike but at points is does feel a little more difficult.

Have you ever been hiking here before? Would you like to go hiking here if you had the chance?

Thank you for reading dolls, until next time
