Having oily/acne prone skin usually means that I always struggle to find a foundation that actually works for me. Some foundations leave my skin looking like I dunked my faced in a pot of oil because of how greasy and oily my face looks (not cute). Other foundations claim to be matte but aren’t really matte. The deal breaker depends on whether the foundation breaks me out or not.
I can usually tell within the first day of wearing a new foundation if I like it. I can tell how oily my skin gets or if I get a reaction to it. Break outs will usually pop up by the end of the day or I’ll wake up with a few new spots.
I remember when everyone and their mom was raving about this foundation but I never truly wanted to try it. I always felt that this foundation was going to be extremely heavy and make me breakout. The foundation doesn’t have a pump, which I dislike because it is messy.
So, here is my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation review…

Did the shade match?
The shade was almost a perfect match. The two shades I was matched with were 1w2 Sand and 2w2 Rattan. Sand was a bit light and Rattan is a little dark(not much but just a little) but I lighten it up with concealer. This way the outer perimeter is a little dark and the center is brightened up.  It looks great when I do this because I wasn’t going to buy two different foundation shades.

How does it feel?
The foundation is medium to full coverage but it should feel lightweight and comfortable. I think the foundation is definitely buildable but it isn’t something I would wear everyday. I wore the foundation straight for a week and my pores were definitely clogged. Even though the foundation claims that it won’t clog your pores. Typically, every week I’ll do a pamper routine that includes a pore strip. This pore strip took loads of junk out and I could still see some left behind. So this foundation is something I would use a couple of times a week.
I mean I could wear it everyday but I would just have to make sure my skincare is on point. This way I can remove any and all traces of makeup at the end of the day.

How did it wear?
During the week I usually do my makeup around 6:30am and remove it until 7pm. The foundation definitely is long lasting and actually controls oils. For one, I don’t find that I’m constantly having to blot or powder my face. Also, I didn’t notice the foundation oxidize much from when I first applied it.

How does it apply?
I used the benefit the Porefessional: matte rescue gel ($28) as a primer, followed by the Estee Lauder foundation. An important thing to note, is that this foundation will dry a little too fast. I would recommend working in sections because once it is dry it won’t be easy to blend. Also, I would use a beauty blender instead of a brush because the brush is kind of streaky.
The beauty blender blends the foundation with such ease and makes it look flawless. I typically use only one layer of foundation and it does cover up my blemishes. If I want to completely cover my blemishes I’ll use two layers and it’ll get me amazing flawless coverage.

Is it easy to remove?
With just soap and water? No way, Jose! This foundation is smudge proof and lasts through heat and humidity. Therefore, I use my Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil to break down the foundation and waterproof mascara. After, I go in with my Cetaphil cleanser as a second cleanse.
Once I do this my face should be completely clean but sometimes my toner gets anything that was left behind. If you don’t use an oil then a face wipe should do the trick.

Final thoughts?
Overall, I think the foundation is great for $42 because the coverage is amazing. My favorite medium to full coverage foundation is the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation and that typically runs for $39. Comparing them both I would say I prefer the Estee Lauder one. It doesn’t look cakey nor do I need to blot as often. The Tarte one I find that I love it more when I mix it with other foundations.
This isn’t a foundation I would wear everyday because it feels a little heavy on the skin. Personally, I don’t like that feeling but I will still use the foundation. Major con about this foundation is that it doesn’t have a pump. You can easily add a pump to this foundation, which is something that I would purchase.

Have you tried this foundation before? What’s your favorite foundation?

  1. This is my HG Foundation! I even used it at the beach once and it didn't budge at all. Great review!
