The Cleansing Balm that isn't Worth It

Botanics Organic Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm

Why you shouldn’t be using this Botanics Organic Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm

Cleansing Balms are my jam. My favorite is the Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm
because it removes everything but most importantly, it doesn’t clog my pores. I love using this
to remove my eye makeup, especially waterproof mascara and stubborn lipstick. I was looking to find a dupe for the $28 balm after having gone through two balms.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why change a product that works perfectly fine? Well as a student, I don’t have the luxury of being able to afford to buy all these amazing products without
a plan. Usually, I save my money for quite some time, before I can purchase a product. This
is why I wanted to find a cheaper dupe for the Clinique one.

I think karma got me. The skincare gods played me! I honestly thought this balm was going
to live up to its standards/hype, but unfortunately not. I’m not quite sure what everyone
loved about this product. I have learned my lesson.

What is this product for?

Gently removes makeup and impurities while thoroughly cleansing the skin and leaving
it smooth. This product is meant for basic cleansing, pore cleansing and improving skins texture.

Does it have a scent?

I don’t smell anything in particular.

What is the recommended skin type?

Dry, normal, combination and oily skin

What does this product have and not have?

Phthalate-free, butylparaben-free, formaldehydedonor-free, formaldehyde-free, nonylphenol
exthoxylate free, propylparaben-free, contains shea butter, sulfate-free, contains olive oil, contains
rose water, paraben-free and dye-free.

This product is horrible! I wouldn’t recommend buying this product because it is heavy. It’s so thick
and that muslin cloth gets stained and it’s hard to remove. My sink looked like an oil slob because
all the makeup was floating with the oil. My Clinique cleansing balm does not do that!

The cleansing balm doesn’t really work on waterproof mascara (I only use waterproof) nor on the
Estee Lauder Foundation (full-coverage foundation). I tend to use the Clinique balm to break down
this foundation and then go in with a cleanser. But not with the cleanser balm from Botanics. I
followed the directions that were on the box and I hated the entire process. I literally cleansed my
skin more than 5 times after using the balm because my skin felt greasy and dirty. I even use my
cleansing brush to really get in there because soap and water was not doing it for me!

I was hoping to really love the balm because the Botanics products look so nice and sleek but
sadly, that is not the case. I would not repurchase this product. If I could find my receipt I would
return it in a heartbeat because I’m not going to put this product on my face again. The muslin
cloth went straight in the bin because it was stained so bad and felt greasy from all the balm it
absorbed (I did wash the cloth and it still looked gross).

Final thoughts?

I wouldn’t repurchase and if I could, I would have done more research before purchasing. My skin
is very oily and acne prone and I don’t feel comfortable using this product again because I don’t
want it to break me out. After cleansing with this balm, I still felt that I could feel the residue it left
behind even though it says it won’t leave anything behind.

This was just not a product for me. I do want to try some other Botanics products but for now, I
think I’ll play it safe. I’m just going to stick with my Clinique balm or Neutrogena Face Oil (great
drugstore oil) because I know these products work well with my skin.

Retail: $9.99
Purchased: Target
My rating: 1.5 out 5

I tend to only write about products that I truly love but I could just not, not write about this product.
I would use at your own discretion and remember...just because it didn’t work for me, doesn’t
mean it won’t work for you.

Have you tried any Botanic products before? Do you recommend anything in particular?
